BNC to VGA Converter
One of the most important parts to most CCTV systems are the monitors. Most CCTV systems use BNC type connections from the DVR or Camera to the monitor. Unfortunately TVs and monitors with BNC inputs can be very expensive. One great way to cut back on those costs is to use a BNC to VGA adapter. This will take the BNC output from your DVR or Camera and convert it into a VGA signal. The benefit of doing this is that almost all computer monitors have VGA inputs. This will allow you to go from the BNC signal to VGA to connect it to your computer monitor.
Do you have an old CRT or LCD monitor laying around that you aren't using? Use a BNC to VGA converter to put it to use and save you the cost of buying another monitor for the CCTV system. Not all BNC to VGA converters are created equal. Most converters just turn your monitor into a BNC display.
The folks at Sewell Direct, however, have a great BNC to VGA converter that also has VGA pass-through. This allows you to hook both your BNC source and a computer (with VGA) to the converter and let you switch which one you're viewing. This enables you to use your one monitor for both purposes.
In that setup you can be using your computer on your monitor, reach over and hit the toggle button on the converter and you'll immediately be viewing your CCTV system. Whether you use that converter for the VGA pass-through or just as a converter, it is an excellent option for doing so.
With how common VGA monitors are these days, save yourself some money and use a BNC to VGA converter with that monitor you've already got lying around.
