Selecting the right CCTV Camera

USB to Serial AdapterOne of the first things you need to do when setting up your simple CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) system is to decide which type of CCTV camera would be best to use in your system. There are a lot of variations in CCTV cameras that you'll want to be aware of. The differences have to do with the type of set up they'll be used in. There are cameras that are indoor, outdoor, waterproof, night vision, dome, bullet, etc.

If you're mostly needing security for daytime, or for fairly well lit areas the standard dome cameras are often ideal. These cameras are generally much lower cost which will allow you to install more of them for a better coverage of the area. If you want you can also mix these with some night vision cameras in the more critical areas. Sewell Direct has a great example of this type of simple Indoor Dome CCTV Camera.

The night vision cameras use infrared LEDs to illuminate the area in front of them. The benefit is that this light cannot be seen by the human eye, but can be picked up by the camera. This is what allows it to illuminate the area without it being noticeable to anyone that may be sneaking around. One thing to keep in mind is that different infrared cameras can view different distances. The further a camera can illuminate the more it's going to cost. These cameras, however, can be very effective for keeping an eye on things at night. Sewell Direct also has some great night time infrared cameras. They have them ranging from a 50 ft range Dome Camera, a 60 ft range bullet camera, and a 115 ft range bullet camera.

They are perfect for keeping an eye on a business, or the front/back yard of a house. Since the light is infrared you can keep an eye on things without having to light up your yard and keeping you up at night. You can use them as added night time protection for your normal daytime security system.

Whatever type of CCTV camera you decide to use, it can be a great way to protect yourself, your home, your business, and your property.
